One of the ways to protect our privacy is to download and install the Tor, Vidalia and Privoxy bundle from the links below:
Tor Project Overview
Tor is a software project that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security. Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. Tor works with many of your existing applications, including web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote login, and other applications based on the TCP protocol.
Tor Project Downloads
Tor is distributed as Free Software under the 3-clause BSD license. The bundles also include Vidalia and Privoxy, which are supporting applications distributed under the GNU GPL. There is no fee for installing Tor, or using the Tor network, but if you want Tor to become faster and more usable please consider making a tax-deductible donation to The Tor Project.
Tor Browser Bundle
The Tor Browser Bundle lets you use Tor on Windows without needing to install any software. It can run off a USB flash drive, comes with a pre-configured web browser and is self contained.
Fox Tor Firefox extension
When you use the Internet, you leave a trail of information that can be used to track your online activities. FoxTor is a tool that helps prevent this. It provides an easy and convenient way to browse the web using the anonymous and encrypted TOR network. This offers greater privacy compared to regular proxy services or extensions.
The Tor Project is in Google Summer of Code 2008
This program funds students to work on open source and free software projects over the summer, and provides organizations like ours with a chance to work with great and enthusiastic coders from around the world.
Vidalia Project Homepage
Vidalia is a cross-platform controller GUI for Tor, built using the Qt framework. Using Vidalia, you can start and stop Tor, view the status of Tor at a glance, and monitor Tor’s bandwidth usage. Vidalia also makes it easy to contribute to the Tor network by helping you set up and manage your own Tor relay. Vidalia runs on most platforms supported by Qt 4.2 or later, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux or other Unix variants using the X11 window system.
